Checklist

  1. Job title and EDA number, if it already exists
  2. Budget code (can be given later if necessary)
  3. Design services needed? (layout, verification, finalisation: Design Office)
  4. Prototype or pre-series production needed? (<=10 units: Assembly Workshop)
  5. Full series production needed? (>10 units: Planning Office)
  6. What is the requested delivery date?
  7. What quantities do you need?
    1. Bare PCBs to be purchased by EPR
    2. Assembled boards to be managed by EPR
    3. Mechanical parts to be purchased by EPR (in cooperation with EN-MME-MA, not directly by BE-CEM-EPR)
  8. Crate assembly and cabling to be managed by EPR
  9. Will you provide any of the components, mechanical parts, bare PCBs, etc? (clearly specify)
  10. Context of the project, including expected scale of production:
    1. Only a few prototypes, never for large scale production --> do not spend unnecessary time on optimising file management, ease of manufacturing, etc.
    2. For series production --> spend time updating design files to reflect challenges in prototype production, to save time and money later.
    3. Perennial design for regular production --> fully consider Design for Manufacture, etc, in order to save money on annual or repeat productions.

For design services (BE):

  • project package ((schematics, Altium/Cadence/!KiCAD project zip, etc)
  • NDI form (see: Design Office)

Optional: Check capacitor voltage ratings using Christos Gentsos' helpful tool: https://gitlab.cern.ch/cgentsos/extract_cap_voltage_rating

For production (PO or WS but not BE, with your own design):

  • Gerbers, drill file, P&P file and ASCII CAD
  • Panels or tooling strips/technical edges (no components within 5 mm of board outline)
  • Fiducials
  • If there are vias in pads, they are filled and capped
  • Appropriate space between components

Providing components:

  • All in standard industrial packaging
  • Moisture sealed packaging is intact
  • All in good condition
  • Appropriate quantities for machine waste and spares
